Optimizing Latency from Mainland China to a Japan VPS

Japan is close to China with low theoretical latency, but real experience depends on route quality. Here are ways to optimize China-to-Japan latency.

1. Choose the right route

Standard international bandwidth congests and detours at peak, where latency can jump from 40 ms to 200 ms+. Optimized lines route more directly and stably — key for latency-sensitive workloads.

2. Pick a nearby node

For Chinese users, prefer the Tokyo node with ample international egress and good routing.

3. Cut handshake overhead

  • Enable HTTP/2 or HTTP/3 to reduce round trips;
  • Turn on the TCP BBR congestion control for better throughput under high latency/loss;
  • Put static assets on a CDN to push content to edges nearer users.

4. Verify by testing

Run ping/mtr several times at peak, compare nodes and routes, then decide.
