What Are BGP and CN2 Lines, and How They Affect Latency

When buying a VPS you'll see terms like BGP, CN2 and optimized lines. Understanding them helps you judge network quality.

What is BGP

BGP is the internet's routing protocol. A data center connecting to multiple carriers and using BGP to route intelligently can give users on different carriers a better path, improving connectivity and resilience. "BGP multi-line" usually means broader connectivity.

What is CN2

CN2 is China Telecom's next-generation premium network, split into GT and GIA tiers. CN2 GIA is the top tier with the best routing and the most stable peak-hour performance, often used for routes needing low latency to mainland China — and priced accordingly.

Impact on latency

  • Standard lines: cheap but prone to detours and loss at peak;
  • CN2 GT: better than standard, moderate value;
  • CN2 GIA: most direct and stable, lowest latency, highest price.

How to choose

Ordinary sites don't need premium lines; latency-sensitive work (remote office, real-time AV, gaming) should prefer optimized lines.
